The majority of machine problems (unbalance, misalignment, etc.) occur on the rotor and start with an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. To be useful for overall machine safety, any individual casing measurement must continuously transfer a considerable amount of rotor vibration to the machine casing or transducer mounting point.

Furthermore, ensure that the accelerometer transducer is installed on the bearing housing or machine casing. Improper installation may reduce the amplitude and frequency response of the transducer and/or provide erroneous signals that do not represent actual vibration. Consult the applicable instruction manuals and Application Notes. Bently Nevada may provide engineering services to find suitable machine housing measurements and installation support upon request.

190501 Functional Description

A low-frequency variation of our conventional Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensor is the Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer. With fan assemblies for cooling towers and air-cooled heat exchangers running at or above 90 rpm, it is designed to monitor the casing vibration velocity (100 to 300 rpm typical). These vibration amplitudes can be measured by the Velomitor CT Transducer in addition to the vibration frequencies produced by the fan motor and speed reducer.
